How ECU Remapping Works
How ECU Remapping Works
ECU remapping works by modifying the software that controls your engine’s operation.
Inside every modern vehicle is an ECU which acts as the brain of the engine. This system constantly monitors sensors throughout the vehicle and adjusts engine parameters accordingly.
When performing a remap, a technician connects specialist tools to the vehicle to read the original ECU software file.
The remapping process typically involves:
Reading the original ECU software
Modifying key engine calibration maps
Writing the updated software back to the ECU
Testing the vehicle to ensure everything runs correctly
Important engine parameters that can be adjusted include:
• Boost pressure
• Fuel injection timing
• Torque limiters
• Air-fuel ratio
• Throttle response
At Derbyshire Tuning we use professional tools such as KESS3 and Autotuner to safely read and write ECU files.
These tools ensure that the ECU communication process is safe and reliable for the vehicle.
