What Is a Stage 1 Remap?

What Is a Stage 1 Remap?

A Stage 1 remap is one of the most popular and effective upgrades you can make to a modern vehicle. It involves recalibrating the software inside your vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) to optimise how the engine performs.

The ECU controls many aspects of your engine including fuel delivery, boost pressure, ignition timing, torque limits and throttle response. Manufacturers often leave large performance margins in the software to allow vehicles to be sold globally under different climates, fuel qualities and emissions regulations.

A Stage 1 remap safely unlocks some of this hidden performance by adjusting these parameters while keeping the vehicle within safe operating limits.

What improvements can you expect?

Most turbocharged vehicles typically see gains of:

• 20–35% increase in power
• 25–40% increase in torque
• Improved throttle response
• Smoother power delivery
• Potential fuel economy improvements

Unlike more aggressive tuning stages, a Stage 1 remap does not require any hardware modifications to the vehicle.

Is it safe?

When carried out correctly using professional equipment and quality tuning files, a Stage 1 remap is designed to stay within safe tolerances for the engine and drivetrain.

At Derbyshire Tuning we use professional tuning tools including KESS3 and Autotuner alongside tested tuning files to ensure reliable and consistent results.
