Understanding ECU Files and Custom Tuning
An ECU file is the digital software program that controls how your vehicle’s engine operates.
Within the ECU file are hundreds of calibration tables that determine how the engine responds to different driving conditions.
These tables control important parameters such as:
• Fuel injection
• Turbo boost levels
• Torque management
• Ignition timing
• Air-fuel mixture
When a remap is performed, these maps are modified to optimise engine performance.
Generic vs Custom ECU Files
There are generally two types of ECU tuning files:
Generic files
These are pre-developed tuning files designed to work across a wide range of vehicles.
Custom tuning files
These are specifically calibrated for an individual vehicle and its modifications.
Both approaches can provide significant improvements when developed correctly.
At Derbyshire Tuning we use tested and reliable ECU calibration files designed to deliver safe performance gains and improved drivability.
